Highlights

• Recall (preview): A new opt-in AI search experience for Copilot+ PCs that saves snapshots of on-screen activity, letting users find previously seen apps, websites, images, and documents by describing their content. Enrollment in Windows Hello is required to access saved snapshots. Available in most markets starting early 2025; rolling out to the European Economic Area later in the year.
• Click to Do (preview): An on-screen action tool for Copilot+ PCs, triggered with Windows key + mouse click or Windows key + Q. Users can act on images or text directly - for example, erasing objects in Photos or removing backgrounds in Paint. On Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, intelligent text actions such as Summarize and Rewrite are available, powered by the on-device Phi Silica language model. A new swipe gesture from the rightmost display edge opens Click to Do, and IT admin management policies are now included.
• Improved Windows Search: Semantic indexing now supplements traditional lexical indexing on Copilot+ PCs, working across File Explorer, the taskbar search box, and Settings - even offline. Cloud photo search via OneDrive is also supported in File Explorer. Now available on AMD- and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs in addition to Snapdragon.
• Narrator speech recap: A new feature lets users access a transcript of what Narrator has recently spoken, follow live transcription, and copy content using keyboard shortcuts.
• Phone Link in Start menu: Cross-device features such as phone calls, SMS, photo access, and content sharing are now directly accessible from the Start menu.
• Widgets updates: Web developers can now create interactive widgets using existing web content. Lock screen widget improvements in the European Economic Area include customization support for the weather widget.
• File Explorer updates: New pivot-based curated views on File Explorer Home surface Microsoft 365 content. Text scaling support across File Explorer dialogs is improved. ZIP extraction performance is improved, especially for large numbers of small files. A bug where the address bar failed to show a path after opening is resolved.
• Settings: A new option under Settings > Apps > Actions lets users manage which apps Windows recommends actions on Copilot+ PCs.
• Desktop icons: Packaged apps pinned to the desktop no longer display an accent-colored backplate, resulting in larger, clearer icons.

Improvements and fixes

The following fixes are part of the normal rollout and apply broadly.

• Blue screen error (SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR 0x18B): A blue screen encountered after installing the April 2025 security update and restarting is resolved.
• DHCP Client / sleep resume: Intermittent loss of internet connectivity after a device wakes from sleep is fixed.
• File Systems / network VHD(X): An unexpected OS stop error displayed on a blue screen during normal use with a user profile redirected to a network VHD or VHDX is fixed.
• Imaging: Certain content pages where JPEG images were not rendering are now fixed.
• Input: Remapping settings for Xbox Elite and Adaptive Controllers are now correctly applied when using those controllers on a Windows desktop.
• Networking - S2D and RDMA/SMB Direct: A networking issue disrupting Storage Spaces Direct cluster management and RDMA with SMB Direct in certain configurations is resolved.
• Windows Hello: An edge case where Windows Hello blocked facial recognition and PIN login on devices with specific security features enabled - seen after a Push Button Reset or Reset This PC with "Keep my Files" and "Local install" - is resolved.
• Windows Setup / Sysprep: A bug causing push-button reset options to fail after installing Windows 11 version 24H2 with Windows Setup followed by Sysprep - due to boot file configuration not being updated - is fixed.
• Windows Update estimated time: The Windows Update settings page and the Start menu power button now display an estimated offline duration when installing updates.

Known issues

Citrix Session Recording Agent blocks update installation

Symptom: Devices with Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411 - released December 2024 - may successfully download the January 2025 Windows security update but fail to complete installation on restart. An error reading "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes" appears and the device reverts to its previous update state. Home users are not expected to be affected.

Workaround: The issue is resolved in Citrix Session Recording Agent version 2503, released April 28, 2025, and later versions. Refer to Citrix documentation titled "Microsoft's January Security Update Fails/Reverts on a machine with 2411 Session Recording Agent" for details.

Blurry CJK text in Chromium-based browsers at 96 DPI

Symptom: Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) text may appear blurry or unclear at 96 DPI (100% scaling) in Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. This followed the introduction of Noto fonts as CJK fallback fonts in the March 2025 Preview Update. Limited pixel density at 96 DPI reduces clarity and alignment of CJK characters.

Workaround: Increasing display scaling improves text rendering clarity. Microsoft has shared its findings and potential solutions with Google. Users can also report issues through the official Google Noto Fonts GitHub repository.

Microsoft Print to PDF printer may disappear

Symptom: After installing KB5055627, the Microsoft Print to PDF printer may no longer appear under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, preventing Print to PDF functionality. This primarily affects enterprise customers and IT admins.

Workaround: Microsoft has not listed a completed workaround in the page text at the time of writing.
