Frequently asked questions
Is KB5095093 a security update?
No. KB5095093 is a non-security preview cumulative update. It contains quality improvements and new features but does not include the security patches that ship in the monthly Patch Tuesday release. Organizations that manage update rings should treat this as an optional preview update rather than a required security deployment.
What happens if Windows 11 version 24H2 Home or Pro reaches end of updates in October 2026?
According to Microsoft, Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that date, those editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest version of Windows 11.
What is the Secure Boot certificate expiration notice about?
Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on consumer and non-managed business devices over recent months. Devices that have not yet received the newer certificates will continue to start and operate normally, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. Updated certificates will continue to be delivered through Windows Update in the coming months.
How does the new Windows Update calendar pause feature work?
A calendar experience added to Settings > Windows Update lets administrators and users pause updates by selecting a specific end date rather than a fixed duration, for up to 35 days. You can extend the pause by choosing a different end date and re-pause updates as needed. This gives more flexible control over update timing compared to previous pause options.
